80,000 trees will be distributed throughout the city of San Francisco in accordance with equity, susceptibility, and environmental considerations.
The goal of San Francisco Public Works' Bureau of Urban Forestry (BUF) is to increase and maintain the city's tree canopy. This study uses shadow equity analysis to identify locations inside the city where differences in the existing coverage of trees across 12 selected parameters are present. Using the most urgently needed neighborhoods as a starting point, this research acts as a road map for BUF's planned distribution of trees, promoting fair access to urban greenery.
